FireUP! workcrew ‘07; This year there are 3 of us travelin’ to Black Mesa in a pickup truck. We’re going to participate in the annual thanksgiving food run. We are helping to transport food, water and firewood to Dine’ families resisting relocation.

Ithaca Freeskool’s Men’s Anti-Sexist Discussion Group (social detox) will be hosting a discussion on “Men becoming better allies to sexual assault survivors”. This is an opportunity to address sexual assault and how it’s being dealt with (or not being dealt with). This event is open to male identified folks only. This is a potluck discussion, so please bring food.

 

Here are some questions we will ask;

- How can men be better allies to survivors?

- How can men be helpful to male survivors?

- What models are available for holding perpetrators accountable?

- What is consent?

- What would you do if a current (or ex-) partner called you out for sexual assault?

We Support Students Protesting Racism at ICSD

It seemed right to take this opportunity to voice our support for the students, parents and community members standing up against racism and classism in the Ithaca City School District (ICSD). It has been inspiring to see young people taking action to assert their dignity in the face of an administration that consistently plays the public relations game, denies the obvious, and discounts students’ experiences. Militarizing our schools and turning them into prisons is not the answer to the challenges that the school district is facing. We also support the Kearney family in their fight for justice and encourage folks who come to our site to learn more about these issues. Sadly, racism and classism are alive and well here in our “enlightened” little town and it is all of our responsibility to be accountable in dealing with it. Let the youth lead the way!

“The Oof of the Wood” Premiere @ Ghost Cat movie Night!

This week Ghost Cat film night will include the premiere(!) of the short puppet movie “The Oof of the Wood” created by Ryder (of Cardboard Construction fame) and Biz (not famous yet). Ryder made the puppets, Biz made the costumes, and neither of them really know how to make a movie but they did it anyway.
